Our longest drive is over now, we had to drive 600 km from south to the east of Iceland, to the fjords. We spent more than 11 hours in a car, luckily we made many stops on the way.
The landscape was changing dramatically, sometimes every 50 km. We saw the highest mountain of Iceland and drove past. The power of floods caused by the eruption can be immense.
We saw many glaciers and the highlight of the day was visiting the glacier lagoon. Another unforgettable experience and another place I dreamt to see when in Iceland. The sound of moving and cracking glaciers and the birds is something you don't hear every day. The mass of ice is incredible. Another retreating glacier. This time it is incredible 200 - 300 m a year. We also were lucky to see a seal :-)
The 600 km drive to the fjords, through the tunnels and ice caps was well worth the effort.
Wow. What amazing landscapes and huge distances! Love your images. Holiday sounds great.
